Here is our boy in his official high school picture from the 1969 Mineola High School yearbook. Kind of looks like Leonard Nimoy, ya think? The skinny black tie is interesting. So is the plaid jacket. I didn't own a suit. When I was 13, my Mom bought me a green, 3 piece suit with a reversible vest, at Robert's Men's Wear on Jericho Turnpike. I haven't bought a suit since. I am still wearing my Dad's suits, and sometimes when my brother Danny's butt gets too big I get one of his. The really cool thing is the hair. A modified surfer haircut. Mom used to give us a quarter and make us walk to Vincente's Barber Shop and ask for a "short regular." When you got home, if your hair wasn't short enough, you would have to go back and ask the barber to cut some more hair off. On Sunday mornings before church, Mom used to make us line up in the kitchen and she would glue the front of our hair back with this stuff we called "goo." Really.

Here is the page in the yearbook where my picture appears. Since homeroom assignments were always alphabetic, we were in homeroom together since 7th grade. The little blurb next to my picture is amusing. It mentions my job at the Bike Shop and yes, it does say that I am planning to enter a career in physical education. My how plans change.

I am also amused by the inscription by Denise Gross who says I was "a little fresh." She is referring to an incident during 7th grade wherein I looked under her dress. Panty hose had not yet been invented and girls wore garter belts. Anyway, she chased me down the hallway and kicked me in the you-know-where.
