A fixture at the door to the classroom. I had to add the words "in the garbage" because students were just sticking their wads of gum to the sign. Also, excellent use of a broken music stand. Reuse - repurpose.

Yep … On the bright side, Cliff the custodian loved this. Speaking of custodians ... we had an awesome crew.

There was Paulie, the head guy who had worked there since he was a teenager, Big Sal, Little Sal, Cliff, Tommy and of
course the late great Billy C. Those of you who knew them are probably chuckling right now.

I was in the habit of dressing in a tee shirt or flannel shirt, jeans and sneakers. I wore my dad's suits for concerts. I also had a huge ball of keys hanging on a red saxophone strap around my neck (decorative and functional). Many visitors who stumbled upon me as I wandered the building spreading joy would just assume I was a custodian. I would help with the delivery or whatever it was that brought them to the building.

Fortunately, the custodians accepted me as one of them. Some of my proudest moments happened while impersonating them.
